The Application to the program is made through the Online Application Platform.
If you already applied for the program in the previous academic year, you can still use your login and password; this will allow you to keep the previously uploaded documents and/or update them. You can send an email to EDEEM Admissions Officer to remind your login/password.
Before you writing to us, please make sure that your questions have not been already answered in the FAQ sections.
Important! Read it carefully before submitting the application
The Online Application process consists of the following 7 mandatory stages (some of which are automatic through the online application) and possible additional ones, as described below.
Only application made through the online platform, duly completed and validated, will be evaluated. Please do not send any paper document by regular mail (see below however for the certified copies) or any electronic documents by e-mail, unless you are explicitly asked to do it by our staff.
The same Form should be used both for the application in the EDEEM Joint Doctorate AND for the application to any Fellowship.
The admission mechanism is common to the Consortium and you need only to fill a single form at the Consortium level, following the guidelines described below. The selection procedure and the registration will also be done at the Consortium level.
All documents should be written in English. All the files should be pdf (except the photo which should be a .jpg). The photos accepted are only the photos ID.
You can apply to more than one Erasmus Mundus Fellowship. However, for application to an Erasmus Mundus Fellowship through another Erasmus Mundus Doctorate, please, contact the appropriate Erasmus Mundus Master Coordinator: our application form is only valid for application in the EDEEM Joint Doctorate and to the Erasmus Mundus Fellowship through the EDEEM Doctorate.
The Following Pdf files should be submitted to your personal EDEEM application page:
1. Curriculum Vitae
2. Personal Letter
3. Research Project
4. Proof of Nationality
5. Certified Transcript of Study Result
6. Certified copies of University diplomas
7. English proficiency
8. Two letters of recommendation
1. Curriculum Vitae (on a single pdf file) containing the following items. Each item (A, B, C...) should start on a new page.
A. Personal coordinates: name, first name, addresses, telephone and e-mail (both your address in your home country and the current one where students can be reached during the application process, year of birth, country of citizenship... (1 page)
B. Studies in high school and undergraduate studies, with the dates, the names of the institutions, the field of study, and the grades (elective) only given by year. Date of the Bachelor degree: precise whether it is effective or planned. If you plan to get your Bachelor degree at the end of this academic year you are eligible to apply but we need (i) an official representative of your institution to state the estimated date of the degree and then (ii) to receive the degree before school starts if you are accepted in our program (see below). (1 page)
C. List of mathematics courses taken at the undergraduate level (above high school) and above. Precise the title of each course, the year of studies, the grade (elective), the total number of hours of the course, and a brief description of its content. Particular emphasis should be given on the level in calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics. There is no GRE requirement.
D. Proficiency in English and in the languages of the Consortium (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch). Precise whether the courses of your undergraduate studies were taught in English or not; in the first case you will not need a certificate of English test (TOEFL, etc), and in the second case you will need to provide it, if possible before before the application deadline and in any case before the Fall semester starts and your arrival in Paris.
Your estimated proficiency in the languages of the Consortium is only asked to help us in defining the level groups of language classes and will not be part of the selection process. (1 page)
E. (Elective) Graduate studies, research project, professional experience, or any other information above the Master degree. (1 page)
F. (Elective) Any other information you may wish to provide.

A. Motivation statement. Explain your application, your present situation, your interest in the field, in the degree and in the institutions of the consortium, your intentions after this degree, ... (1 page)
B. Preferred mobility track. This essentially concerns the choice of the institution of the second year. Students may propose a ranking of their choices between the institutions and it is very important to precise whether this is a definitive choice or simply a wish. In the latter case, the Committee will take into consideration the wishes of the students starting with those who have the highest acceptance ranking. (1 page)
C. Financial aid. Students should precise if they apply for a fellowship (Erasmus Mundus, Asian Window Erasmus Mundus, Consortium and if their application is conditional to the acceptation of a fellowship. (1 page)
3. Research Project
Download and fill the dedicated form here attached that specifies
- the research project (prepared in step 1)
- the mobility track for the 6 semesters of the PhD studies
- the names of the potential advisors in each university
- any other information you want to mention
Students may apply to several research projects (up to 3).
4. Proof of nationality Upload a unique file (with a single page, whenever possible).
5. Certified transcript of Study results or other academic records that give proof of the undergraduate and Master studies, including credits and grades achieved in each single subject. Documents must either be in English or translated in English and be merged in a single pdf file; this document should be certified.
6. Certified copies of University diplomas at the level of Master degree. Documents must either be in English or translated in English and be certified. These documents should be merged in a single pdf file.
If students have not completed their Master degree before the application deadline, a statement should be uploaded with the planned date for ending the master studies and for the reception of the degree. The acceptance to the EDEEM Doctorate and/or anyone of the EDEEM fellowships will be conditional to the getting of the degree before the fall semester starts. No enrollement will be possible in the EDEEM program without the certified copy of the Master degree that should be uploaded before the student arrives for the welcome week.
7. English proficiency. Students should send a certificate of recognized test of English proficiency (TOEFL) only if the courses of their undergraduate studies were not taught in English (see above).
8. Two letters of recommendation (automatic through the online process)
On Step 5 of your online application, you will be asked to submit the information about two persons who are willing to write a letter of recommendation (first name, last name, university, city, country, email).
Once you submit your application, each person listed under the reference form will receive an email prompting him/her to upload a pdf copy of the reference letter with the letterhead of his/her institution.
Once the reference letter has been uploaded, the receipt of the file will appear on your personal page of the online application form ( and a mail will be sent to you).
It is up to the student to check first with these two persons that they accept to write the letter and then to make any necessary reminders.
• Passport photo. We ask you to upload a .jpg file of 100x150 pixels if you want that it appears correctly. It is elective at this stage but it will be mandatory after acceptance in the program.
• Any other documents you wish to provide (in a single pdf file), such as GRE scores, research project, publications.
As soon as you have submitted all the documents, you must realize a 'course choice' in the platform in order to validate your application:
• EDEEM 1 (For the the first year Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate: European Doctorate in Economics);
• EDEEM 2 (For the second year Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate: European Doctorate in Economics);
• EDEEM 3 (For the third year Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate: European Doctorate in Economics);
The acceptance in the program is decided by the procedure described below.
Note that the acceptance in the program is a first necessary condition to be considered for a fellowship (see at the end). A student can be enrolled in the program if she/he is accepted even if she/he does not get a fellowship.
The acceptance procedure is organized in five steps:
1. Definition of the research project
2. Submission of the research project
3. Acceptance on the main list of a research project
4. Final acceptance on a research project
5. Confirmation of the acceptance in the EDEEM program
The deadlines below only concern the students who want to apply for an Erasmus Mundus fellowship.
1. Definition of the research project ( see above - Online Process Section 3)
2. Submission of the research project ( see above - Online Process Section 3)
3. Acceptance on the main list of a research project.
Before the 9 of January, students will be contacted by the EDEEM Office that will send one of these possible answers:
a) Acceptance of the student on the project (see point 4)
b) Acceptance on the main list of the Project
c) Rejection of the student on the project
The acceptance (a or b) is decided by the potential advisors. They may contact the applicants (by e-mail, Skype or any other means) to get additional information. At this stage, several students may be accepted on the same research project.
4. Final acceptance on a research project.
Acceptance of one (and only one) student per Research Project is decided by the two advisors before the end of January. The signature by the two advisors of the form is formally organized by the EDEEM Office. Applicants are informed by the EDEEM office.
5. Confirmation of the acceptance in the EDEEM program.
After being accepted in Step 4, students have fulfilled the main requirements to be accepted in the EDEEM Program and this acceptance need only to be confirmed by the EDEEM Board of Admission in February.
Selection for a fellowship.
For students accepted in the EDEEM Program (hence having satisfied Steps 1-5), the EDEEM Board of Admission will then consider them for the various fellowships offered by the EDEEM program, including the Erasmus Mundus Fellowships. Students will then be notified of the decision taken after the meeting; however, before being definitive, this decision has still to get the approval of the European Union (for the Erasmus Mundus Fellowship), which is usually the case but is not automatic. After receiving a positive answer from the EDEEM Office it is advised that students start the preparation of their arrival (passport, visa...) as explained below.
